Our Story

Peak performance
minus the poison.

We started this brand because activewear kept feeling like it was made to only accentuate and hold the body. Not cater to the reality of living in one.

“The body is the instrument of our hold on the world.”— Simone de Beauvoir

Between our founders, friends, and family, we have seen how skin, hormones, chronic pain, and autoimmune conditions change the way people move through the world. Eczema, acne, PCOS, CRMO, arthritis, keratosis pilaris, psoriasis — these were not abstract “customer problems” to us. They were things happening in our own lives and in the lives of people we love.

One of our founders was lifting, marathon training, and trying to build a healthier lifestyle while also dealing with severe hormonal acne and psoriasis flare-ups. She would go to the sauna in cotton pajamas instead of after her workouts for the fear of her activewear triggering inflammation. She was putting in the work, and her activewear was working against her.

We wanted to create pieces that help minimize everyday discomfort, not add another source of irritation, restriction, or stress to our already complicated bodies.

That felt backwards.
Our Why

When you are investing time, energy, and discipline into taking care of yourself, your clothes should not be the thing that sets you back.

We wanted pieces that felt elevated, functional, and wearable, but also more thoughtful about what touches your skin. So we took inspiration from the wardrobe staples and activewear we already loved, then rebuilt the idea around the lifestyle we actually wanted: movement, comfort, recovery, confidence, and longevity.

This brand has grown with our fitness journeys, and it will keep growing with yours.

“When patterns are broken, new worlds emerge.”— Tuli Kupferberg
Our Standards

Our fabric choices are intentional. We prioritize materials made with 90–100% natural fibers, including fibers derived from cotton and wood pulp, because what sits on your skin matters.

We choose OEKO-TEX and GOTS certified fabrics where possible, and use FSC certified packaging to keep our standards thoughtful beyond just the garment itself.

We are also a women and minority-owned brand, but that is not the whole story. The real story is that we are building for people who want their clothing to work harder, feel better, and fit into real life.

“[Institutions] of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth.”— Abraham Lincoln

Too often, brands start with a real mission and lose it to acquisition, private equity pressure, or scale at any cost — lowering standards, cutting corners, and drifting away from the people they were built to serve.

We are not building this just to dilute it the moment it starts working. Even as we grow, succeed, and become profitable, we would rather maintain control, protect our standards, and stay accountable to the people we are making this for. This is a passion project before it is anything else.

This is more than clothing. A small part of a longer journey toward holistic wellness, self-trust, and feeling at home in your body.

Sincerely,
The NFB Team
